Congratulations National Chief Phil Fontaine on Your Re-Election

Nemaska, Eeyou Istchee - Matthew Mukash, Grand Chief of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) and Deputy Grand Chief Ashley Iserhoff congratulate National Chief Phil Fontaine on his re-election: "On behalf of the Crees of Eeyou Istchee I congratulate National Chief Fontaine for such a resounding victory in the election yesterday. This vote of confidence by the chiefs shows that the First Nation Communities in Canada stand together and with you, their national chief. Your success in seeking resolution of the residential school issue speaks to your ability to move the aboriginal agenda in Ottawa. I look forward to working with you to address the issues of treaty implementation and the recognition of Indigenous Governments" said Grand Chief Matthew Mukash.

Deputy Grand Chief Ashley Iserhoff stated: "The re-election of National Chief Fontaine is recognition of the good work that he has done to redress past violations of the rights of our people in Canada. I look forward to his support in our continued efforts for the recognition of the human rights of indigenous peoples in Canada and around the world. The Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) represents the Cree Nation of (Eeyou Istchee) in eastern James Bay, Quebec. Among its primary objectives are: the advancement of the nine Cree communities, the protection and advancement of the Cree rights as set out in international and domestic law and including the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement.
