Letter to Mayor Gerald Tremblay of Montreal Offering Sympathies for the Tragedy at Dawson College

Posted: 2006-09-19

Dear Mayor Tremblay;

On behalf of the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee), I would like to express our heartfelt sympathies for the tragedy which occurred at Dawson College in Montreal on September 13, 2006. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of all victims of this tragedy. Our continued prayers go to those who remain in the hospital and to the City of Montreal.

We, like many, were filled with mixed emotions yesterday as Dawson College reopened its' doors. For many years Cree students have attended Dawson College and continue to do so, as well as many of the other CEGEPs, colleges and universities located in the City of Montreal. Our Post Secondary office program for our students is located in Montreal, as well as offices for some of our other organizations. Montreal has become a second home for many of our youth and families, and we share in this significant loss and the senselessness of this tragedy.

Sincerest thoughts and prayers,

Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee)
Deputy Grand Chief Ashley Iserhoff
