Dear Sir:

I am writing in respect to your December 2 article about the community referenda in the Cree communities of Waskaganish, Nemaska and Chisasibi entitled: "Cree reject Rupert River diversion project".

I am erroneously cited as having stated that the decision on the 2002 Agreement "...wasn't made by each community. It was made by the Grand Council."

In fact the decision in 2002 in favour of the Paix des Braves Agreement was made, at the insistence of all of the communities, in separate referenda in regard to questions that were decided by each community. The Agreement with Quebec was only then, after a majority of the residents and of those who voted had approved it that it was signed by the Grand Council of the Crees (Eeyou Istchee) in Waskaganish on February 7th, 2002.

Deputy Grand Chief Ashley Iserhoff
