We received news at 4:45 p.m. yesterday (November 29th) afternoon that David Masty, Sr., former Chief of the Whapmagoostui First Nation and former member of the C/B had passed away. He would have fallen through the ice on his way to his bush camp on Wednesday, November 28. His body was recovered yesterday afternoon.
This is very tragic and shocking news for all of us. David was a close cousin of mine, our grandmothers were sisters. He was very close to our family.
We ask that you think of David's wife, children and extended family in your prayers. David had four children (Eddie, Linda, Ruth, Pauline), many grandchildren and a few great grandchildren.
His passing away will be felt throughout Eeyou Istchee, as he was well known for this accomplishments in his service to the Whapmagoostui First Nation and to the Cree Nation. As most of you know, David was involved at the regional level of Eeyou governance since the early 70s. His contribution to the Cree Nation of Eeyou Istchee will be noted with distinction. We will greatly miss him!
Best regards to all,
