The Cree Nation Youth Council (CNYC) has decided to move the dates for the Inspiring our Youth, Cree Youth Symposium, to June 22, 23, & 24, 2010. Eeyou Istchee Interim Youth Grand Chief Joey Blacksmith explained the major reason for this modification: "Due to the evident changes in climate conditions, the goose hunting season will begin sooner than originally anticipated. After consultation with our Cree Elders, the regional Cree Trappers Association and Cree Advisors, mainly for safety reasons and ice conditions, it was decided to postpone the Youth symposium to accommodate all Crees." He added "Even though we adjust to the hunting season, the Youth Symposium will still be held in Val D'Or at the Forestel Hotel and will be even more exciting for our Youth as well as for our sponsors as the planned program will go ahead"
The event will include special guest speakers and workshops for topics such as Education, Cree Culture & Arts, Health & Social Issues, and Economic & Business Development.
The Symposium will also feature the Finals for the Regional Public Speaking Contest and the Youth Achievement Awards Gala, as the time period for nominations for the achievement awards have also been extended. Registrations for the Cree Youth Symposium will be accepted until June 1" 2010. The CNYC trust that their sponsors will keep their commitment in making it a success even with the date changes. CNYC would like to extend its thanks and appreciation to all the sponsors who have committed financial support to the Youth Symposium.
