WHEREAS in two investigative reports of the “Enquête” program, Indigenous women from different regions of Quebec came forward with reports of being victims of police abuse and that since then, the support offered to them has been uneven and insufficient.

WHEREAS since April 2016, the Native Para-Judicial Services of Quebec has received over 75 calls from Indigenous people regarding allegations of violence or abuse by police officers;

WHEREAS one of the most vulnerable populations in Quebec confirms their lack of confidence in police forces responsible for ensuring their security;

WHEREAS by Order in Council, the Government of Quebec has relegated issues under its own responsibility to the Federal Government, following the announcement of the National Inquiry on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls;

WHEREAS there is a need and a renewed call for equitable justice for Indigenous women in Canada and Quebec;

We, the undersigned, call on the Government of Quebec:
To launch and put in place a Provincial Judicial Inquiry to investigate the relationship between Indigenous women and police forces in Quebec;
In addition, we ask that this process is done in collaboration with Indigenous peoples, in accordance with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
